Student Sports National
Players of the Week

East
Isaiah Whitehead (Lincoln, Brooklyn, N.Y.)

A player who has been expected to get in line at Lincoln and follow previous Student Sports All-Americans such as Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair and Lance Stephenson, Whitehead has lived up to that acclaim and had a big game for the Railsplitters last week.

The 6-foot-4 senior guard went off for 32 points as Lincoln topped Jefferson 87-65 to stay unbeaten in PSAL Class AA action. Jefferson was a team viewed by some that might have given Whitehead and his teammates some trouble.

Whitehead hopes to lead Lincoln to a second straight city title and then will head to the McDonald’s All-American Game in Chicago. He has signed with Seton Hall where he will be joined by Lincoln coach Dwayne “Tiny” Morgan.

Southeast
Gabe DeVoe (Shelby, N.C.)

At 20-1, Shelby is one of the top teams regardless of class this season in North Carolina and DeVoe is the main reason for that.

A 6-foot-3 guard headed to Clemson, DeVoe had 34 points and nine assists in a 78-63 victory last week over Burns. In his previous game, DeVoe had 42 points and 13 rebounds as Shelby motored past East Rutherford 77-71.

For the season, DeVoe is among the national leaders with 33.4 points per game. That average was helped in January with a 52-point night against Statesville.

Midwest
Trey Lyles (Arsenal Tech, Indianapolis, Ind.)

He’s the leading player for the No. 16 team in this week’s FAB 50 national rankings and is a McDonald’s All-American.

Lyles, who is a 6-foot-10 center signed by Kentucky, had a monster outing in helping Arsenal Tech bounce back from a loss to Hamilton Southeastern that snapped a 16-game win streak.

Facing a traditionally strong foe in Indianapolis Pike, Lyles dominated with 38 points as Tech won 83-75. Lyles made 15 of 24 shots from the floor, grabbed 15 rebounds and had four assists.

Southwest
Aubrie King (Mumford, Texas)

A 6-foot-5 senior guard, King has a great chance to become just the fifth player in Texas history to be named all-state for all four years of his prep career. Sure, it’s only Class 1A but he’s still an outstanding player.

After a 120-46 win already this week over Somerville, King has led Mumford to a 32-1 record and the top ranking in the state for 1A squads. In that game, King nearly netted a triple-double with 34 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

In his previous game from last week, King had 28 points and 13 rebounds in a 94-52 triumph over Milano. He is averaging 21.6 points, 7.7 assists and 9.2 rebounds per game. He has signed with St. Edward’s College.

West
Jackson Price (Sedro-Woolley, Wash.)

The lucky number for Price last week was 33 because he scored that many points in both of his outings for the Cubs.

A 5-foot-9 junior point guard who is reportedly the leading scorer in Washington this season at 28.6 ppg, Price had 33 points with 10 steals and six assists in a 73-52 victory over Blaine. He then led Sedro-Woolley past Nooksack Valley 69-53 with 33 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Price, who also is a standout for Sedro-Woolley in soccer, also averages 5.1 assists per game and has led the Cubs to a 13-3 record.
